Hello my name is Kimberly! I started Jiu Jitsu in 2022 after moving to Texas from California. I’ve always heard about jiu jitsu but the only option available in Temecula California was a sport gym. However, I really wanted to do something with self defense because I think it is important that everyone know how to defend themselves, so I started Krav Maga. I did that for a couple years and had a blast but when we moved to Texas there were no options. That’s when Jiu Jitsu resurfaced! I discovered Gracie Jiu Jitsu Seguin and signed up after doing my 10 day free trial for only a couple days.

I was hooked! I trained for all of three months before I realized that I wanted to help out with the kids classes. Kids are the most important group of people. At the age we teach they are still trying to figure out who they are, they have so much curiosity to life, and are sponges to information. It is so valuable to kids to be able to develop skills that allow them to be confident in who they are and what they believe. To develop skills that allow them to stand up against injustice, whether that be from another kid or even an adult. An instructor at Krav Maga known simple as “instructor Mike” always told us that “Ladies you have an amazing gift from God that men don’t have, it’s called your instinct, so trust it”. When you know something doesn’t feel right, when it doesn’t look right or sound right, then it probably isn’t. Trust yourself. And that goes with kids too, not just women. Confidence starts within and when they learn that they can trust that they know what to do when training and what to say when we do peer pressure drills it permeates into all other parts of their life.

What keeps me going is seeing all the progress made by all of the students. Although I am partial to the kids even seeing the adults in our Gracie Combatives class and our Women Empowered class go from saying they “will never understand the move” to seeing them teach other students how to do the move! It is a wonderful lifecycle of a Gracie Jiu Jitsu student. And it makes me very proud to see it time and time again because progress is tracked by how the students do, how the culture is, and to see a culture of collaboration is beautiful.

In summary, my name is Kimberly and I love working with everyone here and beyond. I am forever grateful to all students who join us on the mat and hope you will too.
